Mining sits at the start of the jewellery supply chain for diamonds, gold and platinum group metals. Demonstrating that companies mine in a responsible way is becoming increasingly important to many supply chain participants. The new structure of the 2013 RJC Code of Practices (COP) has grouped the mining-relevant provisions under a new section called Responsible Mining Sector.  It includes updated requirements from the 2009 COP, as well as new requirements in the areas of Free Prior Informed Consent for Indigenous Peoples, and Mercury. A final ruling from SEC is expected by April 15, 2011 with proposed reporting requirements going into effect for the first reporting period ending after April 15, 2012.
